World Music

If you are interested in music that goes beyond the borders of the UK and USA
BBC Radio 3 has a feast of world music coming up. Check it out here:

Here's a little Ali Farka Toure, alas no longer with us. You can't listen to this for long without feeling a smile come over you.

And Yasmin Levy, who is fabulous

I don't know a thing about world music but these were pretty cool. The first one almost sounded Indian.

Super music apprentice. Ali was the best blues guitarist Africa has yet produced - even if he didn't call it blues, and Yasmin Levy was a revelation - so powerful.

Thanks Sam, glad you liked them. i agree it sound Asain in parts, but he was from Mali, but I guess he had lots of influences.

Yes Colin he was truly great. I take he point that the rhythm of the blues probably did go with the slaves.

I love Yasmin Levy, it's such an amazing tale of keeping these songs and music alive
